Jason our guide, gave the group a brief introduction of what we can expect to learn during our 3/4 hour tour around Fort George.

Everyone seems to have a job to do.

Witnesses to a one man firing squad? Not likely, but there does seems to be a lot of shooting going on today.

This was a very warm day, even for those of us who have dressed down for the high temperature. Jason admitted he can get quite uncomfortable on days such as these.

Inspection. The routines carried out by people such as these two, go on constantly during the day, with little recognition of the tourist activity going on around them.

All activities being carried out by the personal in the fort are done with a purpose, and attention to detail.

Most of the actors here are high school and university students, who have volunteered their time to work at the fort for the summer. Their reward: to experience how Fort George was managed by the regiments during the mid-1800s.

I had to make haste around the battlements in order to get myself into position for this demonstration.

This was a very loud BOOM!

I have some catching up to do if I want to join Sharon on our next discovery, along the docks of Halifax harbour.

Citadel Hill (shaped like a house), is at the bottom of the map. Our next stop is north-eastish, next to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic at Sackville Landing.

After a bunch of anxious moments trying to figure out the parking permit instructions, we eventually acquired a pass, then made our way down to the wharf.

It was much more comfortable spending time meandering along the docks of the waterfront. Fort George was a tad too warm for this cowboy. It was an active place along the pier. A lot to see and do.

Boats are forever coming and going throughout the waterway.

When I was living out my early teen years in Dartmouth, my dad was stationed across the harbour at the naval base in Halifax. During that time, we had the opportunity to tour aboard a variety of naval vessels. Ships such as aircraft carriers, battleships, minesweepers, and frigates were some of the ones we visited, but the submarines were a bit too closed in for me, so one time aboard that boat was enough for me. This French ship, the Mistral, an assault vessel and a type of helicopter carrier, was launched in 2004, certainly not around in my earlier years.

While some sailboats are sailing, others are undergoing a facelift.

There are some water hazards that are a bit more challenging than others.
