The Magnificent Seven

Our intent is to eat lunch at the base of Bow Glacier Falls while getting bathed in a refreshing mist.
Bow Glacier is the ice sheet above the falls and feeds into a small lake or tarn. The outlet portion of the tarn drains over the rock face tumbling into the falls.

Our group of seven are heading towards the falls, while other members of our hiking group, who had left Calgary an hour earlier than us, took the longer hike up to Bow Hut.

Looking across Bow Lake I can see our group gaining distance on me.
Because I stop quite often to smell the roses, I am constantly in catch-up mode.

Bow Glacier Falls looks rather close from here, but in fact it is 4.3 kilometres away, with a guesstimate time of two hours to get there.

There are moments in this day when I just settle down and enjoy the beautiful scenery--and smell the roses of coarse.

The lady in black was so patient waiting for us to pass before she can head back down. But not so fast. Because close behind our group was another group of seven.

The Other Group.

After they had passed, the lady in black took her turn to negotiate the slippery slope.

Not too sure what is going on here. A bit of comic relief I'm thinkin'.

These hikers we caught up with will soon branch off of our trail and continue on to Bow Hut.

The Bow Hut hikers make a left turn at this point, we on the other hand forge straight ahead.

The Bow Hut hikers also have this natural bridge to scale before continuing along their trail.
A couple of years ago I did hike up to Bow Hut, but back then this step ladder was not available. In those days people had to be boosted up one by one by their fellow hikers.

Now it is time to make our way down and do some rock and stream scrambling before reaching the base of the falls.

We'll have lunch amongst the rocks to the right.

This blue tarn is fed by Bow Glacier. The tarn's outlet drains down the rock slabs and over the cliff, hence, Bow Glacier Falls is born.
Num-Ti-Jah Lodge is in the distance on the shores of Bow Lake.

We are having lunch just below the cliff.

With our lunch break completed it is now time to head back down.

The ladder now sits idle, waiting to give others a helpful boost.
