On this day our group of hikers was pretty much divided down the middle, with half hiking up to Raspberry Ridge and the other fifty percent following the Grass Pass route. I am a member of the Grass Pass pack.

We had about a 150 metre walk from the parking lot to the trailhead.

We never seem to be in a big rush to get anywhere.

Looking back is a habit of mine not only to see what or who is following, but also when tracking up I only see what is in front of me. Taking the occasional look back gives me an idea about what going down will look like.

Grass Pass is ahead of us and between the high ridge sloping in from the left and the lower ridge sloping in from the right.

"A pass forms when a glacier or stream erodes, or wears away, the land between areas of higher terrain. Passes often provide the easiest routes for people to travel across steep mountain ranges."
Other names for a pass are col, or saddle.

In my mind this is a tamed down version of a pass. Most if not all of my pass experiences have been high, WINDY, cool, and rocky, and normally they do not have cattle roaming around. What!

We are nearing the saddle which is to the left of Keith. Soon we will follow along the ridge to the right.

Our parking area is in the vicinity of the brown patch at the bottom of the valley.

HEARDING CATTLE

As we're coming along this path we flushed out this herd of mooing cattle, and guess where they're headed? Right towards our pre-planned lunch spot.

Just as we thought. They are standing in our spot.

So if the cattle were not moving we decided to hunker down for lunch on the hill just slightly above then.

Back in 1999, Myself, Sharon and three others endured a hike up to the abandoned fire lookout atop Mount Burke, which as the crow flies is about 16 kilometres in the distance.

There were some muddy and rocky challenges to navigate through on the way down.

After a bit of research I have come to an undecided conclusion that this tree bark fungus could very well be a Tinder Conk Mushroom which are shaped similar to a horse hoof.

It is now time for us to venture off to Black Diamond and have a meal and beverage at the Hard Knox Brewery.
